How to Ease a Seam

Easing a seam means to sew a slightly longer edge of a piece of fabric to a shorter edge without creating visible puckers, folds, or gathers.

Start by clipping (or pinning) the start and end of the seam. Line up any reference points along the seam and secure in place.

As you clip, gently distribute the extra material of the longer edge of the fabric along the shorter edge without creating any folds or gathers.

Use an appropriate stitch to sew the seam. (For puppet mouths, we like to use a locking whipstitch.)
